This weekly preparation for labour, birth and the early weeks course is run in Kensington and Fulham and will teach you all you will need to know for the birth and the weeks afterwards. It is a comprehensive combination of classes that cover the antenatal and postnatal period and is an indispensible aid to expectant mothers and fathers. Learn about a whole range of topics from labour to breastfeeding and bathing to swaddling. Whether you would like to learn about how to structure your baby's day, or whether to feed on demand or pro-actively, this is the course for you. This London antenatal course takes place in the evenings at Babylist in Fulham and in Kensington (from April 2011) from 6.30pm - 8.30pm in the evening. The course is led by midwives and maternity consultants with years of practical experience with expectant and new parents, and provides full preparation for labour, birth and the early days and weeks with the newborn baby. There are 7 evening classes, from 6.30-8.30pm. Fathers to be are invited to attend sessions 2,3,4 and 6 with their wife/partner. Course fee is £425 per couple. Session 1Preparation for labour, birth & life with a new baby. Thinking about a birth plan. Session 2All about labour & birth-how your body works in labour, how babies are delivered. Natural labour & birth explained. Pain relief options. Session 3Complications and interventions of labour, induction, assisted birth & caesarean section. Epidural & spinal pain relief. 3rd stage of labour and first few hours with your baby. Session 4How to help yourself to a natural & stress free labour & birth. Optimal positioning, relaxation, active birth, birthing pool, massage, alternative pain relief options inc TENS, hypnobirthing. Session 5Confident Feeding-Breastfeeding, Bottlefeeding, Expressing & Use of equipment. Session 6Your hospital stay and postnatal care. What help is available ie night nannies/maternity nurses.
